Jo has appeared on a pro bono basis in appeals against the Department for Work and Pensions’ assessment of Personal Injury Payment (PIP) entitlement. Working with the Free Representation Unit, she has successfully represented appellants in both the First-Tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal (Administrative Appeals Chamber).
During her pupillage at 1COR, Jo worked on a wide variety of public law cases. She drafted submissions to the Supreme Court on a costs issue, produced written draft observations for the European Court of Human Rights on behalf of the United Kingdom, and researched and drafted advice on the merits of proposed judicial review applications.
Jo was assistant editor of De Smith’s Judicial Review, third supplement to the Seventh Edition (Sweet and Maxwell, 2016). She produced four chapters: ‘Convention Rights as Grounds for Judicial Review’; ‘CPR Part 54 Claims for Judicial Review’; ‘Other Judicial Review Proceedings’ and ‘Judicial Review Remedies’.
