Suzanne Lambert practises in inquests and inquiries, public law, medical law and disciplinary law.
Suzanne has extensive experience in public law and human rights, judicial review, public inquiries, with particular expertise in immigration and asylum, unlawful detention, prisons, and matters (inquests and inquiries) involving the police, healthcare service and the prison service.
She undertakes a wide range of common law cases, with a particular focus on healthcare, medical law and mental health, including clinical negligence and inquests, but also contractual matters involving institutions and GPs, cases involving ethical questions such as consent to treatment, human rights, mental health law, and confidentiality. She has particular expertise in cases involving serious and catastrophic injuries, IVF and surrogacy, and delayed diagnosis of cancer. She has experience with complex legal issues such as contributory negligence, apportionment between Defendants, fatal accident claims, consent, and secondary victim claims.
She also has significant experience in professional discipline and regulatory law, and has appeared in proceedings IOT and FTP proceedings in the General Medical Council, the General Dental Council, and the Nursing and Midwifery Council, including in relation to allegations involving dishonesty, exploitation of vulnerable persons, and conduct of a sexual nature .
She is recommended as a leading junior by both Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500.
Suzanne has appeared in a number of different fora (including Tribunals, Coroner’s Courts, the General Medical Council, the General Dental Council, and the Nursing and Midwifery Council), and she has experience of all levels of courts, from the County Court up to the Supreme Court and Privy Council.
Clinical NegligenceSuzanne is instructed by both Claimants and Defendants in a wide variety of cases arising from allegations of clinical negligence. She acts in both low-value cases as well as high-value cases involving serious and catastrophic injuries (for example, cerebral palsy, spinal injuries, neurological injuries, loss of fertility, IVF and surrogacy, and delayed diagnosis of cancer). She has experience with complex legal issues such as contributory negligence, apportionment between Defendants, fatal accident claims, consent, and secondary victim claims.
She deals with cases relating to both liability and quantum at the drafting and advisory stage as well as in settlement negotiations. She has trial experience in both the county courts as well as the High Court and she has significant experience of procedural hearings and applications at the interlocutory stage.

- Jama v J Kuye and 12 others (2024): Junior Counsel for tetraplegic Claimant. Obtained settlement of damages for alleged failures in primary and hospital care.
- Ledsham v NHS Foundation Trust (2020): Successfully defended a claim alleging failures to appropriately investigate and diagnose TB.
- MXW v 2 NHS Foundation Trusts (2020): Obtained settlement of damages for birth injury claim following delayed diagnosis of Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. Junior Counsel for the Claimant.
- ARB v IVF Hammersmith Ltd & R [2018] EWCA Civ 2803: Successfully defended a claim for wronglful conception. Supreme Court refused to grant permission to appeal.
Suzanne is a leading public law and human rights practitioner with particular expertise in immigration and asylum, unlawful detention, prisons, inquests, and mental health. She has a wealth of experience in judicial review, especially in immigration, prison law, and tax matters, and has appeared at every level of the UK court system, including the Supreme Court and the Privy Council. She has experience in relation to Tier 2 and Tier 4 immigration, as well as asylum, and has appeared in the High Court and the Upper Tribunal for judicial review challenges, as well as in the First Tier Tribunal (appeals).
Suzanne has gained experience and expertise as a former member of the Attorney General’s Panel of Counsel (between 2007 and 2024) and is keen to build her Claimant public law practice in immigration, prisons and human rights more generally. She has a particular interest in equalities and the Public Sector Equality Duty as a result of her work on the Sheku Bayoh Public Inquiry.
Suzanne has significant experience with inquests and appears regularly in the Coroner’s Court. She is instructed by families as well as institutions and healthcare professionals. She has considerable experience of Article 2 inquests and jury inquests involving prisons, healthcare service and the police.

- In the matter of an application by the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland for Judicial Review v Coroner Fee, Eugene Thompson, Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (UKSC/2024/0083): Represented PSNI in the appeal by the Secretary of State regarding the decision of the coroner to provide a gist of sensitive information over which public interest immunity has been asserted in a Ministerial Certificate. Suzanne brings substantial experience and insight into public inquiries, gained through her involvement representing Core Participants and as part of the Counsel to the Inqiury team in several high-profile inquiries including the Sheku Bayoh Public Inquiry (member of the Counsel Team representing the Chief Constable of Police Scotland); the Covid Inquiry (representing DEFRA and the Secretary of State for Scotland in Module 1 and Module 2A respectively); the Al Sweady Public Inquiry (representing , and the Robert Hamill Inquiry (member of the Counsel to the Inquiry team). She has also been instructed in environmental inquiries on behalf of the Environmental Agency.
Her knowledge of environmental, healthcare, and police law enables her to act for a diverse range of clients on a wide array of issues.
