Welcoming Esme Cairns and Emily Millard as new tenants - Oct 2024
Esme joined chambers as a tenant in 2024 after successfully completing pupillage. She accepts instructions across a range of matters in the Court of Protection and in Family Law.
Before joining the Bar, Esme worked at the Law Commission as a Research Assistant, predominantly supporting the wills project. She also interned at JUSTICE, a human rights charity. Esme has volunteered with Citizens Advice West Sussex, Advocate and at the Free Representation Unit. She also assisted young people in police interviews as an Appropriate Adult.
Children (Private Law)Esme is regularly instructed in private law cases at all stages of proceedings and acts on behalf of Applicants, Respondents and Guardians.
Esme is regularly instructed in care proceedings and has experience acting on behalf of all parties, at all stages of proceedings. She has been instructed in FDAC and has also appeared in deprivation of liberty proceedings in the High Court, and applications for recovery orders and secure accommodation.
Esme welcomes instructions to act in the Court of Protection and has a busy practice, where she is regularly instructed on behalf of P (by the Official Solicitor and accredited legal representatives) and public bodies. She has also assisted family members on a pro bono basis. She has appeared before all judicial tiers, at all stages of proceedings, and acted in cases where capacity and best interests are in dispute, with issues including contact, internet and social media, residence, care, and deprivation of liberty. She is available to advise as well as provide representation at round table meetings and hearings.
Esme accepts instructions to represent all parties in proceedings concerning applications for Non-Molestation and Occupation Orders.
