Mark Sheppard secures first Domestic Abuse Protection Order on behalf of the British Transport Police - Mar 2025
Mark joined chambers as a tenant in October 2023 after completing pupillage, and accepts instructions across a range of chambers’ civil practice areas. He is regularly instructed to represent clients across a wide range of Courts, including appearing as junior counsel in the Court of Appeal.
Prior to commencing pupillage, Mark worked for the Bar’s pro bono charity, Advocate, as a caseworker. He has also worked as a Court Clerk at the Royal Courts of Justice, clerking small claim & fast track trials.
Mark ranked first in his year on the Bar Course at the Inns of Court College of Advocacy, being awarded the Derek Wood QC prize for best overall performance. He also achieved the highest mark in the Examination-in-Chief & Cross-Examination final assessments.
Whilst completing his degree, Mark undertook a year of professional training which included a semester studying abroad in New Zealand.
Personal InjuryMark accepts instructions acting for both Claimants and Defendants in a wide range of Personal Injury cases, including Road Traffic Collisions where credit hire is in dispute. He regularly appears in Small Claims and Fast Track trials, along with Stage 3 and Infant Settlement Hearings.
Alongside trials, Mark is regularly instructed in procedural hearings including applications to set aside default judgment, relief from sanctions, and strike out applications. He has previously been successful in applying to disapply a limitation period under section 33 of the Limitation Act 1980.
Mark is regularly instructed in all areas of Police Law, and has experience appearing in the Magistrates’ Court, County Court, and the Crown Court in a range of civil applications brought by the Police including:

• Stalking Protection Orders
• Sexual Risk Orders
• Sexual Harm Prevention Orders, including applications to vary existing orders imposed by the Crown Court
• Forfeiture proceedings brought under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002

• Violent Offender Orders
• Slavery and Trafficking Risk Orders
• Anti-Social Behaviour Injunctions
• Applications for police disclosure in the Family Court
Mark also has experience appearing in civil actions brought against the Police.
Mark accepts instructions on behalf of both Claimants and Respondents in proceedings brought before the Employment Tribunal. He has previously been instructed in cases alleging discrimination.
Mark can be instructed at all stages of proceedings, including advising and drafting pre-issue, appearing at Preliminary Hearings and at full hearings. Mark also has experience representing clients in Alternative Dispute Resolution such as mediations.
Mark has experience in dealing with both contract and tort law matters and is available for instruction to provide advice, draft statements of case, and represent clients at hearings on a wide range of commercial and private disputes.
Mark accepts instructions in animal welfare cases including private prosecutions.
Mark accepts instructions to represent all Interested Persons with a focus upon public bodies including police services and officers, NHS trusts and medical professionals, universities, and local authorities.
