Gemma Welling is our joint 3rd Junior Clerk and joined chambers in January 2017 after moving on from her previous job with a Jeweller, and completing her A Levels from Lewes College in English Literature & Language, Geography and Photography.

Gemma’s current role in Chambers sees her dealing with day to day diary management, allocation of new work, fee negotiation and obtaining the listings for upcoming court hearings. Gemma has completed her Public Access training, and so also now clerks Direct Access cases, dealing with new enquiries and potential clients. Gemma is also a member of the Institute of Barristers Clerks.

Outside of Chambers, Gemma enjoys spending time with family, friends and her boyfriend. She has a passion for baking, which is something that grew during Lockdown, and often brings in baked treats for her colleagues to try. Gemma also has a love of Musicals, making time to go to the Theatre whenever possible.

Our chambers remain in the top twenty sets for client service in the legal directories, described in the Legal 500 and Chambers UK Bar 2022 guides as “The clerks are great and will go out of their way to assist. Tom Hills, Ben Earle and Gemma Welling in particular are great – they are friendly and helpful and always available to assist in the Brighton office.”

“The clerking service is very fast and always helpful. The clerks are very reasonable people.” “The clerks are helpful and efficient.”
