Edward Hand prosecuted Kirsty Geoghegan, a 25 year old woman, who had threatened owners of a stables near Shoreham, West Sussex, that if they did not pay over £5,000 then horses at the stables would be slashed with a machete. Having pleaded guilty at Chichester Crown Court Geoghegan was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment by HHJ Christopher Parker QC.

Despite hearing mitigation that Geoghegan had been suffering depression HHJ Parker QC asked why she had done it. The Defendant was unable to offer any explanation before the judge passed sentence.
