Catriona Murdoch has been appointed legal assistant to the Stanišic defence team led by Wayne Jordash QC.

The trial is the last trial before the UN Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals based in the Hague, which deals with both the Former Yugoslavia conflict and the Rwandan genocide.

Staniši, who was the Head of the State Security Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia is accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The case is a re-trial after both accused were acquitted of all charges in 2015, the third of its kind before the ad hoc tribunals. The case is currently in the pre-trial phase, dealing with complex issues of res judicata and non bis in idem.

Catriona continues her domestic human rights practice and continues to take instructions.
