The prosecution was the first brought against a hunt, in this case a limited company, under the Hunting Act 2004 and is also thought to be the first that relied on representative samples of hunting carried out over a whole season since traditional foxhunting was made a criminal offence in February 2005.

The case has attracted a substantial amount of coverage in the national press.
