For the last three years, Martin Forde QC has acted as the Independent Advisor to the Windrush Compensation Scheme. Today, he hands over the role to Prof. Martin Levermore, who was appointed to the position on 9th April 2021.
In 2018, the Home Secretary launched the Windrush compensation scheme for those who have suffered financial loss because of difficulties proving their immigration status. To ensure there is sufficient external assurance that the compensation scheme is effectively meeting the needs of those affected, the Home Secretary committed to appointing an independent person to oversee the running of the scheme when it is in place.
