Chambers welcomes Allyna Ng as new tenant - Apr 2025
Allyna Ng joined Chambers as a tenant in April 2025, following a probationary tenancy under the supervision of Amy Mannion KC, Shahram Sharghy, and Rachel Marcus.
Allyna is building experience in all of Chambers’ practice areas including public law and human rights, education, employment, and inquests and inquiries.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Allyna practised as a lawyer in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where she handled a variety of matters in all aspects of civil litigation. In her role, Allyna worked on cases involving freedom of religion, judicial review applications, defamation, and misfeasance in public office. Allyna has appeared in the Sessions Court, High Court, and the Industrial Tribunal, and assisted in cases before the Court of Appeal in Malaysia.
Allyna previously trained as a pupil at a set specialising in public and employment law, where she worked on several high-profile cases, including a landmark privacy case involving Meta. She is also representing a client in the employment tribunal through her voluntary work with Advocate, and has previous experience in the public law division of the Law Commission of England and Wales. Allyna has a particular interest in human rights issues and was a volunteer in refugee camp Moria in Lesvos, Greece in 2018 and 2019. Further to this interest, Allyna also worked in a non-governmental organisation in Malaysia which seeks to improve constitutional rights education and empower strategic litigation.
Allyna has a BA in Jurisprudence from the University of Oxford from which she graduated with First Class Honours and a number of academic prizes.
Public and Human RightsAs a pupil Allyna worked on a range of public law matters involving statutory interpretation, Convention and EU challenges, and constitutional law issues. She accepts instructions for individuals and public authorities in all aspects of public law.
Allyna’s work in this area as a pupil includes assisting in:
- An upper tribunal challenge to the imposition of tax on a charitable fundraising event, involving interpretation of EU-derived domestic legislation post-Brexit
- Research into the application of Articles 8 and 10 ECHR in the context of surveillance for the McCullough Review into conduct by the Police Service of Northern Ireland
- Resisting a judicial review challenge to the government’s response to an inquiry on the basis of Parliamentary privilege
- Equality Act and Convention challenges by a prisoner against the Ministry of Justice for discrimination issues arising within a prison
- Research and submissions for the Information Commissioner in a High Court challenge against personalised advertising by Meta
- A sports arbitration challenge to gender regulations involving Convention rights
- A County Court challenge on transport provisions by a local authority for a child with SEN
- Advice on various matters of statutory interpretation including Welsh renting regulations, procurement regulations, and the jurisdiction of the Upper Tribunal.
Allyna is currently representing a client bringing a disability discrimination claim in the Employment Tribunal under Advocate.
As a pupil, Allyna also assisted in employment cases including:
- A two-week trial involving issues of race and disability discrimination, whistleblowing, and unfair dismissal
- Preliminary hearings involving contested arguments on disclosure, privilege, and anonymisation
Throughout pupillage, Allyna assisted in a range of inquest matters including research into Article 2 inquests, providing advice on the merits of a claim post-inquest, and preparing questions for witnesses in inquests. Allyna also gained experience in the workings of inquiries under the supervision of Amy Mannion KC and Shahram Sharghy, who are respectively instructed in the Undercover Policing Inquiry and the Thirlwall Inquiry.
Recently, Allyna was instructed as junior junior counsel for the Government Legal Department to draft summary grounds of defence in an immigration challenge. Assisted by her voluntary experience with refugee charities, Allyna welcomes instructions in this area.
Allyna is keen to develop her clinical negligence practice further and welcomes instructions on behalf of both Claimants and Defendants.
She drafted pleadings under the supervision of Shahram Sharghy and Rachel Marcus in a range of clinical negligence matters, including injuries in the fields of urology and ophthalmology. Allyna also assisted in research on wrongful birth and wrongful life for Sarah Lambert KC, and has assisted Cara Guthrie in drafting a skeleton argument for a 4-day clinical negligence trial. She has also assisted Rachel Marcus and Emma-Louise Fenelon in matters involving quantum.
