On 4 August 2020, 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate stored in the port of Beirut exploded, resulting in one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history. The Beirut Port explosion killed over 200 people, injured over 6000 people and devastated the surrounding area, creating a 140-metre-crater in the port. It destroyed whole parts of the city of Beirut, internally displacing 300,000 people.
