The inquest touching the death of Joe Pooley concluded on Friday 29 July 2022. Shaheen Rahman QC and Matt Hill were instructed by the Area Coroner for Suffolk to appear as Counsel to the Inquest.

Mr Pooley was a vulnerable adult with learning disabilities who was murdered in 2018. Following the criminal trial an inquest resumed to investigate the wider role of a number of state bodies including Suffolk County Council, the Suffolk Constabulary and the Ministry of Justice. One of Mr Pooley’s murderers had a history of violent offending and had been released from prison on license at the time of the killing.  He had breached the terms of that license and should have been recalled to prison. The coroner made a number of critical findings and delivered a narrative conclusion in which she found that Mr Pooley had been unlawfully killed and that the fact that one of his murderers should have been recalled to prison before the killing contributed to his death.
