Facebook and Instagram last year disclosed suicide and self-harm related content engaged with by Molly Russell in the six months prior to her death. Pinterest already disclosed similar materials earlier in the year.

In a recent Pre-Inquest Review, the Coroner confirmed that an expert psychiatrist would be required to report on the likely effect of such materials on Molly. A date for the inquest has not been fixed. The Coroner expressed concern that ‘every day the inquest is delayed poses a potential risk to others exposed to this material’.

Oliver Sanders QC and Jessica Elliott are representing Molly’s family at the inquest into her death. They are instructed by Merry Varney of Leigh Day.
