Dominic Ruck Keene appeared for the family in this high profile inquest into the death of 33 year old Richard Handley. He was instructed by Nina Ali of Hodge Jones & Allen Solicitors.

Richard lived in supported living with 24/7 care. He had Down’s syndrome and had suffered from lifelong constipation, which had been successfully managed through a strict diet and careful monitoring of his health. Changes to how his diet and bowels were managed were to have led to Richard suffering from avoidable acute faecal impaction. Coroner Peter Dean also held that a further “gross failure” in the care given by Ipswich Hospital once admitted to treat his faecal impaction through a failure to escalate his deteriorating condition to senior doctors sufficiently promptly represented a missed opportunity to prevent the death.
