It has just been announced that Sydney Chawatama has been elected to The Bar Council and will begin his tenure in 2017.

Sydney was elected for a three year term alongside seven colleagues also elected for a three year term, and three barristers elected for a one year term. They were elected in the category for self-employed barristers over 7 years in practice. The other categories are for Queen’s Counsel and for Under seven years in practice.

Election to the council will mean that Sydney will contribute regularly to constitutional and policy decisions for The Bar of England and Wales, and take part in diplomatic representation to overseas legal organisations.
