David Manknell is acting as Counsel for the Investigatory Powers Tribunal in the claims arising out of the Edward Snowden leaks. The claims are brought by numerous civil rights organisations including Liberty, Amnesty and Privacy International.

The claims are against Government Departments including MI6, GCHQ and MI5 over the legality of certain alleged digital surveillance programmes, and claim that there is mass collection, storage and analysis of emails and electronic messages and that this is illegal.

The first hearing took place on 14th February 2014 and a full hearing has been scheduled for July.
