Ben Collins will represent the CICA when the Supreme Court hears the appeal in Jones v FTT and CICA [2011] EWCA Civ 400. The case will consider what is a crime of violence for the purposes of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme. Mr. Jones was seriously injured in a road traffic accident caused when a man committed suicide by stepping in front of a lorry. The CICA, FTT and Upper Tribunal concluded that the applicant’s injuries were not attributable to a crime of violence; but the Court of Appeal disagreed and allowed his appeal.
