Prior to commencing his training for the bar, Matthew worked in the area of information law in New Zealand, where he was employed as an advisor to Prime Minister Helen Clark in relation to issues arising from the Official Information Act 1982.

Here in the United Kingdom, Matthew has gained experience in proceedings arising from the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and advised in private litigation stemming from the Data Protection Act 1998.

Data Protection is one of the most important and increasingly pervasive areas of modern law, and Matthew is keen to continue to develop his practice in this field. In particular, he is looking forward to assisting clients navigate the legal landscape following the coming into force of the General Data Protection Regulation.
