Jo accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers’ work and is developing a broad practice, in particular in public law and human rights, clinical negligence, professional discipline, personal injury, inquests and sports law.

She regularly acts for both claimants and defendants in clinical negligence matters. She developed significant experience in complex and high value claims during a lengthy specialist medical negligence secondment. She appears in court in her own right in a variety of civil hearings, alongside coronial work.

Jo has been instructed in the ongoing Kenyan Emergency Group Litigation (‘Mau Mau’), carrying out legal research and analysis for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. She is also instructed by the Home Office in multiple linked cases regarding British Overseas Citizenship (‘BOC’) status and British nationality, acting as junior for Sarabjit Singh QC.

During pupillage at 1 COR, Jo was involved in public, clinical negligence and professional regulatory matters, assisting her supervisor,  Neil Sheldon.

She volunteers for the Free Representation Unit and has appeared before the First Tier Tribunal (Social Entitlement Chamber) and Upper Tribunal (Administrative Appeals Chamber) on a pro bono basis.

Prior to commencing pupillage, Jo worked as a legal researcher in the academic and voluntary sectors. During the Bar course she undertook a pro bono internship at a firm of immigration solicitors. Jo worked in higher education as a systems manager for four years before training as a lawyer, during which time she also served as an elected trade union officer.
