Gideon has a busy practice spanning all areas of Chambers’ work including clinical negligence and personal injury, public and human rights law, inquests and public inquiries, tax, and equality law.
Gideon is regularly instructed in clinical negligence and personal injury claims by both claimants and defendants in claims in the High Court and County Court. He has experience in high-value claims, complex causation arguments, issues of informed consent and Fatal Accidents Act claims. His experience stretches from GPs to surgery, stillbirths and birth injury, midwifery and nursing care, ophthalmology and dentistry. In addition to clinical negligence, Gideon is instructed in personal injury claims arising from accidents at work, employers’ liability claims and serious road traffic injuries.
Gideon often appears in inquests relating to topics ranging from medical negligence, mental health issues, nursing care to road traffic accidents. He was instructed as junior counsel to the Coroner in the Inquest into the Birmingham Pub Bombings (1974).
Gideon is currently instructed as junior counsel to the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA), working on the Accountability and Reparations investigation.
Gideon is also developing a varied public law practice. In addition to his work on the Inquests into the Birmingham Pub Bombings (Coroner for the Birmingham Inquests (1974) v Hambleton and others EWCA Civ 2081), Gideon has been instructed on immigration judicial review claims, unlawful detention, claims relating to discrimination in prisons and article 2, article 3 and article 8 matters. He is keen to expand his public law practice.
He is also interested in developing his experience in the field of tax litigation. He was instructed by HMRC in an appeal in relation to authorisation under the WOWGR legislative scheme in the First-Tier Tribunal (Whittalls Wines Limited and Another v HMRC UKFTT 0036(TC)).
While the bedrock of his practice is civil litigation, Gideon has also developed a criminal law practice, prosecuting in the Magistrates’ Court and also appearing in the Crown Court.
Before coming to the Bar, Gideon obtained a First Class degree from Cambridge University where he read History, before achieving a distinction on the GDL.View full profile »
