Alice Kuzmenko is building her practice in all areas of chambers work. In this time, she has drafted pleadings, submissions, and advices in varying areas of law, and has undertaken advocacy at the county courts, High Court, and Coroners’ courts, as well as the employment, SEND and immigration tribunals. She has experience assisting with disclosure in complex and high value litigation and was junior counsel in the Guildford Pub Bombings inquests.
Alice was on the Junior Junior panel for the CTI of the Brook House Inquiry, and has also worked as a Junior Junior for CPs in the Infected Blood Inquiry and Post Office Horizon Inquiry. She was also instructed in the public inquiry into the death of Jermaine Baker, led by Neil Sheldon KC and acting for the National Crime Agency.
In 2022 Alice completed Advocate’s 25 for 25 Pro Bono Challenge in honour of its 25th anniversary year.
Prior to joining 1COR, Alice was a Judicial Assistant to the former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, The Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon. She has undertaken pro bono work as a Student Advisor for The University of Law Legal Advice Centre and as a Tribunal Advocate at FRU. With The Justice Project she assisted prisoners in overturning wrongful convictions.
Alice is fluent in Russian and is building proficiency in Ukrainian.
InquestsAlice brings her clinical negligence experience when representing clients at inquests, including acting for families, NHS Trusts, and medical professionals. Alice was instructed as junior counsel to the Guildford Pub Bombings Inquests.
She is currently part of the team drafting the second edition of ‘The Inquests Book’ focusing on the chapter ‘Inquests versus Public Inquiry’.
Alice is regularly instructed in high profile public inquiries and is adept at handling the many facets of an inquiry, such as drafting court applications, Rule 9 requests and question plans as well as reviewing witness evidence, data analysis and disclosure requests.

Alice often appears for claimants and defendants and has experience of procedural hearings. She has also drafted particulars of claims and defences, schedules and counter-schedules in complex cases.
Alice frequently advises on prospects and quantum, and has appeared for clients in mediations and RTMs as well as before the county counts and the High Court.
Alice is adept at appearing in the SEND Tribunal, dealing with appeals in particular relating to children’s EHCPs, including the contents of Sections B, F, and I, and decisions concerning the issuing and ceasing to maintain Plans.
Alice also has experience in judicial review arising from EHCP matters.
She was the sub-editor of The Right to Inclusive Education in International Human Rights Law (Cambridge University Press 2019).
Alice is gaining experience in this area, having drafted pre-action protocol letters, advice on judicial review prospects, and succeeding in a judicial review renewal hearing. She represents both claimants and defendants, with particular interest in cases touching on education law.
Alice is a case presenter on behalf of the Nursing and Midwifery Council in a group of cases arising out of suspected fraudulent exam-results undertaken at the Yunnik Technologies Test Centre, Ibadan, Nigeria. She is part of a team of barristers undertaking such cases against 48 NMC Registrants, the first of which took place in March 2024.

- NMC v Akinola (2024): succeeding in proving charges of fraudulent entry, leading to removal of Ms Akinola’s entry on the NMC Register and an interim suspension order.
- NMC v Gbenro (2024): successful application for hearsay evidence, and succeeding in proving charges of fraudulent entry. A colleague dealt with the subsequent directions.
