The Claimant is claiming damages for personal injuries and losses caused by Mr Wootton’s “intentional infliction of harm, misuse of confidential information, infringement of privacy and deceit”.
The Claimant is a former colleague of journalist Dan Wootton and claims that he was tricked by the journalist into sending intimate pictures and an explicit video of himself following ‘catfishing’ messages from Mr Wootton. These messages included Mr Wootton pretending to be a woman who was interested in a sexual relationship.
The sexual offences alleged by the Claimant do not afford him automatic anonymity under the Sexual Offences Act 1992. On Tuesday 8th April, Mr Wootton asked the High Court to remove the anonymity order it had given to the Claimant in relation to his claim in January 2025. The High Court has refused to lift the anonymity order.
Justin Levinson is instructed by Dino Nocivelli of Leigh Day and represents the Claimant.
