In a judgment handed down on 8 April 2025 the European Court of Human Rights dismissed a claim by the well-known businessman Philip Green, who had alleged breaches of his Article 6 and Article 8 rights arising from him being named in Parliament in connection with media reporting in respect of which he had obtained an anonymity injunction. The claim sought to establish that Parliament was under an obligation to prevent such disclosures from being made. The Court rejected the claim, affirming the importance of Parliamentary sovereignty in formulating its own rules and regulating its own procedure.
Neil Sheldon KC acted for the United Kingdom, instructed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
