Marcus Coates-Walker (1 Crown Office Row) represents the family of Mia Ginever, a previously healthy 19 year old, who died of meningitis following delay in treatment at A&E at Frimley Park Hospital. Following an inquest at Surrey Coroner’s Court, Assistant Coroner Dr Karen Henderson concluded that Mia died as a result of ‘lamentable’ failings in care which were contributed to by neglect. These included a delay in treatment of sepsis and meningitis, failing to institute the Sepsis 6 protocol at triage, failing to provide antibiotics until more than eight hours after Mia arrived at hospital, a complete absence of nursing care and failures in the review conducted by a registrar which occurred only five hours after her arrival at A&E. Marcus was instructed by Deborah Nadel of Fieldfisher, who provided excellent assistance and representation of Mia’s family through the inquest. More information about the inquest can be found on the Fieldfisher website.
