Jodey Whiting took her own life by overdose in 2017 after her ESA and other benefits had been abruptly terminated. The Divisional Court had concluded that a fresh inquest was not required to investigate the causal link between the admitted failures by the DWP in administering Jodey Whiting’s benefits notwithstanding the failures were described by the Divisional Court as ‘shocking”.
