The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust has agreed to settle a claim brought by the family of Adam Cheshire, who was born at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in 2011. It was alleged that a delay in diagnosing and treating Adam’s Group B Strep infection following his birth resulted in him suffering significant brain damage. The Trust denied liability but agreed to pay a sum equivalent to 80% of the damages to which Adam would otherwise have been entitled. The Trust also agreed to make an interim payment of compensation to Adam’s family. The compromise was approved by a High Court judge on 23rd January 2023. A final settlement figure has yet to be agreed.
