Lizanne Gumbel KC recently represented the family of a young girl who suffered the amputation of all four limbs after she was wrongly discharged from hospital.
The girl had visited Frimley Park Hospital with “red flags for meningitis and sepsis” but was discharged. She returned to A&E hours later and was diagnosed with meningococcal sepsis. The family of the girl brought a claim alleging that if she had been treated with antibiotics when she first visited the hospital she would not have suffered the amputation of her limbs.
The NHS Trust admitted liability, and a £39 million settlement has been approved by the High Court.
Lizanne was instructed by Deborah Nadel of Fieldfisher.
