Last week the Court of Appeal heard Shamima Begum’s appeal against rulings of the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC) in relation to her challenge to the Home Secretary’s withdrawal of her British Citizenship.  Details of the SIAC proceedings can be found here.  SIAC had found in favour of the Home Secretary, holding that the fact that she could not have a fair and effective appeal hearing should not result in her appeal being allowed, and the refusal of leave for her to enter the UK was lawful.

Angus McCullough QC is appointed as Special Advocate in the closed stages of the proceedings, but it was possible to conduct the 2 day appeal entirely in open, with all counsel attending remotely.  The hearing was live-streamed.
