The Bar Council have released a video featuring their Social Mobility Advocates of 2018 and additional future 2019 Advocates as part of their flagship #IAmTheBar social mobility campaign. The Social Mobility Advocates, including 1COR’s Sarabjit Singh QC, spoke about their non-traditional backgrounds, how they became barristers and offering words of advice and encouragement to potential barristers. It marks the beginning of Bar Placement Week, where sixth form students from non-traditional backgrounds are paired with practising barristers to get an idea of life at the Bar.

Many mentioned seeking out scholarships and researching available resources. For the last few years, 1COR have offered a social mobility mini-pupillage aimed at encouraging students from non-traditional backgrounds, which Sarabjit Singh QC was instrumental in establishing. We also work closely with The Sutton Trust’s Pathways to Law scheme to encourage school students to consider a legal career.
