As part of Weightmans’ Healthcare Training Programme 2019, Philip Havers QC has been asked to speak about the significant case of Darnley v Croyden Health Services, in which he appeared as leading counsel for the Defendant. Emma-Louise Fenelon and Charlotte Gilmartin will also present at this seminar examing ‘Darnley v Croydon Health Services: whose duty of care?”
This case involved the liability of NHS Receptionists following allegations of negligence after a permanent brain injury was sustained by the claimant. It had potentially far-reaching ramifications over a hospital’s liability for it’s non-medical staff and their duty of care towards patients, and is particularly topical given the discussion about schemes that would involve receptionists taking a more active role.
