Dominic Ruck Keene appeared for the family as a Direct Access barrister in a recent two day inquest into the death of a 71 year old grandfather. Senior Coroner for Brighton and Hove Veronica Hamilton-Deeley found that failures in the hospital’s care and wrongful premature discharge were responsible for Mr. Tucker’s death.

Mr. Tucker was admitted to Eastbourne District General Hospital for a radical cystectomy to remove his bladder cancer. In accordance with the hospital’s enhanced recovery scheme he was discharged from the urology ward four days after surgery. He then died from complications two days later

Ms Hamilton-Deeley ruled: “Mr Tucker died from multiple organ failure and septic shock following a combination of factors arising post surgery.” The coroner has written a report with recommended changes to East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust regarding prevention of future deaths.
