1 Crown Office Row produces a magazine each summer comprising news and a review of the key cases and legal work undertaken by Members of Chambers.

The editorial team this year was steered by 1COR barrister Martin Downs, and included Claire McGregor, Matthew Hill and Communications Manager, Rebecca King.

This year’s magazine has seen a complete redesign by our design team at Helm Creative and features the new logo created by Tela and new photography of Members and Chambers by Brian Lloyd Duckett.

Martin Downs comments, ‘This year has been very special. I love the fact that it does not just cover the details of Chambers involvement in the Discount Rate litigation, VAT cases in the Supreme Court and ECJ, Paterson, the Birmingham Six Inquest and the Child Sexual Abuse and Undercover Police Inquiries but it also reports smaller cases which have had real impact like the action brought by the cockle fishermen from the Thames Estuary against the London Gateway Port and the Inquest into the death of Cedric Skyers at his care home in Lewisham.”

The 2017 edition marks the appointment of Shaheen Rahman and Oliver Sanders as silks, the election of Sydney Chawatama to the Bar Council and the runaway success of Sally Smith’s biography of Marshall Hall.

There are also articles about the appeal by Prof Waney Squier (represented by Clodagh Bradley QC), the Inquest into the death of Baby Grace Roseman (where the family was represented by Henry Witcomb QC) and the disciplinary action brought against an Ebola crisis volunteer (Dr Hannah Ryan was represented by Richard Booth QC)

This year’s edition included two feature articles are:

  • ‘Part 36 and issue based costs: possible, but unlikely’ by Isabel McArdle.
  • ‘Riding the Cyber Tsunami’ by Jim Duffy.
