David Manknell is acting as junior Counsel for the Investigatory Powers Tribunal in the claims arising out of the Edward Snowden leaks. The claims are brought by numerous civil rights organisations including Liberty, Amnesty and Privacy International, and are being heard in a public hearing from 14th – 18th July.

The claims are against Government Departments including MI6, GCHQ and MI5 over the legality of certain alleged digital surveillance programmes and, in particular, claims that there is mass collection, storage and analysis of emails and electronic messages that is alleged to be illegal.
