Iain O’Donnell won in complex historic child abuse claim, the trial of which was heard by the Exeter County Court. He secured a substantial damages award for the chronic, historic sexual abuse to which the Claimant was made subject during her childhood. The damages award, which totalled some £243,902.23, included an award for aggravated damages of £20,000 to reflect the fact that the sexual attacks upon the Claimant were repeated and the fact that the Defendant maintained a full denial of all of the allegations upon which the claim was based throughout the proceedings (as per Broome v Cassell & Co [1972] AC 1027).
