Pritesh Rathod appeared for the family in this Inquest and Iain O’Donnell for the Local Authority.

Worth School was set over two sites and William was crossing the road (which at the time had a maximum speed limit of 60 mph) in order to play in a rugby match. The school’s rules required that pupils in William’s year group were not permitted to cross the road unsupervised. The Inquest heard that William and another pupil were not supervised as they attempted to cross the road. The court examined the school’s crossing policy and changes that had been made following the fatal accident. The Coroner reached a verdict of accidental death and found that the school rule that pupils in William’s year group should not cross the road without adult supervision “was not enforced or adhered to”.
