Christina Lambert QC has been appointed as Lead Counsel to the new Hillsborough Inquests, with Matthew Hill appointed as Junior Counsel. The original inquests into the tragedy in which 96 spectators were killed during an FA Cup semi-final in 1989 returned verdicts of accidental death. Following the publication of the report of the Hillsborough Independent Panel last year, the Attorney General successfully applied to the High Court for these verdicts to be quashed and for fresh inquests to be ordered. Lord Justice Goldring has been appointed to conduct the new inquests.
