Charlie Scott was born with cerebral palsy after suffering fetal distress during labour. He is now confined to a wheelchair and requires continual care. It was alleged that the midwives at Royal Bournemouth Hospital were negligent in failing to spot his distress and failing to order an emergency Caesarean. Following expert evidence, the hospital admitted liability and a compensation plan was agreed, which includes a lump sum and annual payments (total value £7.1 million), which will help pay for the care Charlie needs.

Guy Mansfield QC and John Gimlette represented Charlie Scott.

Margaret Bowron QC represented the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
