Philippa Whipple QC is lead Counsel to the Detainee Inquiry which was established to look at whether Britain was implicated in the improper treatment of detainees held by other countries in the aftermath of 9/11.

On 18 January 2012, the Justice Secretary announced that the Inquiry would be brought to a conclusion, in light of ongoing police inquiries. He stated that the Inquiry would provide a report on its preparatory work to date, highlighting themes and issues which might be the subject of further examination and that the Government remained committed to holding an independent, judge-led inquiry once all police investigations had concluded.

The Inquiry aims to provide its report to the Prime Minister shortly.
