In October 2019 Rebecca successfully opposed an application by the Attorney General to increase the 4.5 year prison sentence imposed upon Jermaine Daroux for county lines class A drug dealing. The Court heard submissions and ruled that although the sentence could be viewed as lenient for someone in a leading role it was not unduly so in this case.
In November 2019 Rebecca successfully applied for the sentence of Ryan Lansdell to be reduced. The Court determined that the 4 years imprisonment imposed for sexual assault was manifestly excessive and reduced the term to 2 years 8 months. This case was recently reported in Crimeline.
Last week Rebecca successfully appealed the 5 year prison sentence imposed upon John Verlander for causing death by dangerous driving. The Court stated that the Sentencing Judge had applied the wrong starting point and had also failed to give sufficient weight to the mitigation available. The sentence was quashed and a period of 3.5 years imposed.
