Sophie Carter of West Sussex County Council led a discussion on 22nd May 2018 at Century House in Durrington about the voice of the child in legal proceedings concerning children. She was joined by Brighton solicitor, Claire Raitt who discussed the particular problems thrown up when assessing a young person’s litigation capacity and HHJ Farquhar who dealt with the particular issue of children’s attendance at Court.

The Quality Circle is an initiative created by social workers and lawyers in Sussex to create a self-regulating group of practitioners with the aim of sharing best practice and bringing about continuous improvement in performance in every aspect of the family justice system in Sussex. Its co-ordinators are Nicola McGeown, Principal Social Worker at East Sussex County Council and Martin Downs from 1 Crown Office Row.
