The Civil Law team gave a Contracts Seminar last week on recent changes to the law of illegality and limitation cases, as well as an update on the dynamics of mediation.
Paul Ashwell explained that in Patel v Mirza the Supreme Court had changed the law on illegal contract but not clarified it. As Lord Sumption said, it had replaced one mess with another.
Simon Sinnatt surveyed the latest cases dealing with limitation in contract claims and looked at loans, concealment and breach of standstill agreements.
Stuart Wright rounded the event off by giving an up-to-date overview of mediation of contractual disputes and explained how the dynamics of mediation had evolved.
The talks provoked lively debate over canapes and wine afterwards, thank you to those who attended and offered such interesting discussion.
