After a trial lasting two weeks, Lucy King has been convicted of the manslaughter of her 2 year old daughter at their home in Dover in June 2015. The defendant had left out illegally purchased methadone, which her daughter then consumed. Aware of the dangers posed, the defendant adopted a wait and see policy, and by the time an ambulance was called, it was too late to save her.
The defence, led by Oliver Saxby QC had argued that the defendant’s actions were not grossly negligence, but after nearly 11 hours in retirement, the jury at Maidstone Crown Court determined otherwise. Miss King was sentenced by HHJ Cary DL to 3 ½ years custody.
