On 14th September, a team of barristers and clerks from Crown Office Row entered the Sussex Law Society Beach Volleyball tournament, lining up against five teams of Sussex solicitors from Mayo Wynne Baxter, Lawson Lewis, Bishop & Light, Bennett Griffin and Hamnet Osbourne Tisshaw (the 2010 champions).

After a disappointing start losing their first two games, the team re-grouped and rallied after an inspirational pep talk. This was then followed by three victories in a row and a place in the semi-final. Crown Office Row stood up to the challenge of Bishop & Light in the semi-final and with that victory took their place in the final to play against Mayo Wynne Baxter.

The final was a tense affair, as on the previous meetings between the teams, Mayo’s had always come out on top (Including an earlier game in this tournament).

As the game was reaching a very tense final few minutes, Ghulam Hussain stepped up to serve what can only be described as a brilliant run of 6 unanswered serves in a row. As the final whistle blew, Crown Office Row were victorious, beating Mayo Wynne Baxter 15 – 9. Wild celebrations followed.
