Following a request from the trial Judge, Mr Justice Saunders, the Attorney General has appointed Angus McCullough QC to act as independent Advocate to the Court (a role formerly known as ‘amicus curiae’) to provide independent submissions on issues relating to reporting restrictions.

The trial of Rebekah Brooks and her co-defendants started in October 2013 and is expected to last for 6 months, but Angus’ involvement is restricted to occasions when his input is sought on specific issues relating to reporting of the case.
