Profile

Lois is developing a varied practice in all areas of Chambers’ work including human rights and public law, immigration, clinical negligence and inquests.

Before commencing pupillage, Lois worked as an Immigration and Asylum Accredited caseworker for Refugee and Migrant Justice, where she regularly represented claimants in their appeals in the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal.  Lois also worked in a freelance capacity, assisting on numerous legal challenges and applications - from the Administrative Court to the European Court of Human Rights - as well as on publications and training about immigration and human rights. Lois continues to be instructed in immigration cases, including bail applications.

Upon successfully completing pupillage at 1COR, Lois has also been instructed in several high-profile inquiries and multi-party actions.  She acted as junior counsel to Neil Garnham QC, who was appointed by Rochdale Council to lead an independent review into historic child abuse allegations. She was also one of the 1COR team of barristers that represented over 500 military witnesses in the Al Sweady Public Inquiry.  Lois is currently acting in the Mau Mau Litigation, which involves allegations of mistreatment by the Colonial Government of Kenya in the 1950s, and has been instructed as counsel on the Independent Inquiry into Child Sex Abuse (IICSA).

Lois is also instructed by Claimants and Defendants in clinical negligence cases, drafting pleadings and appearing in court. She represents families and other properly interested persons at inquests.

Lois has a first class degree in Classics from the University of Cambridge and a Distinction in the GDL from City University.  She was awarded the Lord Mansfield Scholarship from Lincoln’s Inn for the BVC, in which she obtained an Outstanding from BPP Law School.  She also has a LLM (specialising in human rights and international law) from the London School of Economics.
