This set receives instructions from both claimants and defendants across a broad range of personal injury-related claims. Its members are able to draw on their considerable expertise in both clinical negligence and health law, ensuring that they are heavily commended for their expertise in cases concerning catastrophic brain injuries. Another area of strength is multiparty group actions, and the group has considerable expertise of actions relating to the use of medical and pharmaceutical products. (Chambers and Partners 2013) "this set wins particular respect for its representation of claimants suffering severe neurotrauma following accidents. It is home to “tenacious and hard-working barristers, who are prepared to listen to the instructions they receive and are always looking for novel solutions to complex cases,” agree clients." (Chambers and Partners, 2012) We have always handled a large volume of personal injury litigation at all levels for both claimants and defendants. Instructions come from Government Departments, health authorities and NHS Trusts, Trade Unions, insurers, the police force and others. Cases arise out of clinical negligence, road traffic accidents, employment conditions, and child abuse in institutions and elsewhere.
At senior levels, we deal with the most complex of high-value cases drawing on the considerable depth of medical knowledge and expertise we have gained from our related specialisms of clinical negligence and other health law matters. We have been involved for both claimants and defendants in many landmark personal injury cases in the House of Lords and the Court of Appeal (for details see the “cases” part of this section).
In 2009, we were nominated in the Chambers & Partners Bar Awards as “Personal Injury set of the year”.
We have been instructed in a variety of multi-party group actions including child abuse compensation cases, organ donations, the Kenyan Training Area claims (unexploded ordinances) and the Nuclear Test Veterans' litigation.
Members of Chambers also have extensive experience of multi-party actions and, in particular, cases involving claims by victims of child abuse against institutions. Our expertise in child abuse compensation law is so extensive that is has been set out in a seperate area of law section on this site.
We also have expertise in group actions arising out of the use of pharmaceutical or medical products, such as the Oral Contraceptive Group Litigation, the MMR Litigation, the DePuy Hip Litigation and the Myodil group action. Download brochure version |
