Public Law

"They have a huge breadth of intelligence running through the chambers" and "a lot of their barristers are able to deal with public and private law work. As the crossover becomes ever narrower, is it useful to find people whose brains can move between both easily." The set is well represented on major inquiries, and in high-profile judicial reviews, and acts for both claimants and defendants. "The barristers are of consistently high quality" and the clerks are "committed and incredibly helpful." (Chambers and Partners 2013)

“The set is praised for its particularly strong health related judicial review practice" (Chambers and Partners, 2012)

A set which never disappoints...  (The Legal 500, 2010)

...a set whose public law reach is longer than most...  (Chambers and Partners, 2010)

We undertake a broad range of this work for both Claimants and Defendants.  Our work covers public law and human rights challenges in fields such as:

• Health and mental health,
• Immigration, asylum and terrorism
• Environmental judicial review,
• Fair trial rights and prisons,
• Local authorities and education,
• Inquests,
• Data protection and freedom of information,
• Military law
• Regulatory proceedings and
• VAT.

Both chambers and individual silks and juniors are ranked amongst the leaders in the field by the leading legal directories.  We are well represented on the Attorney General's panels of Treasury Counsel; in 2012, we have 23 members on the various panels.  A number of our members act as Special Advocates in Control Order and SIAC cases.  Members of chambers have also acted against the Government for Claimants and Human Rights organisations such as Liberty and Justice.
